(Super-Isa!!).
So, jetzt werde ich nostalgisch.
Ich hoffe, es geht Dir gut. Und denke oft an Dich.
One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: “Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. ”
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with ten children – he’s trying to catch up on his sleep.”
I cried from laughter

Hallo Sonja,
great to hear something about the roots where the Kasten-familiy may come from. You are right, the name Kasten is wide spread here in the northern part of Germany. Me and my family are still living here in Luebeck, which is near the baltic sea. My fathers name was Erich Kasten, too. He came from Stettin, which now is in Poland.
AS far as my own researches have lead to, Kasten is a name from Lübeck (Hansastadt, northern Germany), possibly Jewish (there are recurrences of this name in Jewish enviroment, even a woman rabbi Kasten !). The most probable thing is that these people left Judaism around the 19th century, at least some of them. The name is relatively rare, so that links are more than probable, were it three or four generations ago. In order to establish these, it would be of need to get the registrations in the Lübecker Town Hall, thing I haven’t done yet – I’m lazy.
If you do, please let me know.
Thomas Mann and his family, Jews, too, were originary from Lübeck and this community was quite spread there. Although it is not yet known whether the Lübecker Marzipan has such ‘dubious’ origins, too, it may be suspected due to the use of the almond that does not exist in Germany.
Hi-
I was just wondering if you could tell me about Kasten’s in Germany! I am fully German, however, my grandparents, parents, and I have resided in the US our whole lives… I think it would be amazing to someday meet up with someone I’m related to over there, as I will be visitng Germany in my upcoming years of college studying abroad.

Si descubres algo, me avisas.

Your webpage/blog is a wealth of introspective and outspoken heart. Do you also have a MySpace page?
